LED LIGHTING

AND IT’S ADVANTAGES

What is LED?

LED, which means light-emitting diode, has been introduced as a practical electrical component in 1962, and since then LED Lighting has seen many uses in the modern world including televisions, DVDs, players and others commercial products.

Till lately, LED lighting has been impractical for most applications because it is built around expensive and advanced semiconductor technology, but their prices have dropped in recent years making LED lighting the best option for energy efficient, eco-friendly lightning. The advantages of LED lighting are profound, making them much more popular in the latest years than CFLs and Incandescent lights.

Advantages of LED lighting

The main advantage LEDs have, is that they generate miniscule heat. A higher percentage of the electrical power is going directly to generating light, which cuts down on the electricity demands considerably. For one, there are LED bulbs that require less than 2 watts to generate the same amount of visible light that a 20 watt light bulb would produce.

In addition, LEDs are more all-around efficient than Incandescent lights and CFLs. They do not contain any filament that would burn out, which makes them last a lot longer; these lights can last from 50,000 to 100,000 hours. Incandescent light bulbs usually last around 1,000 hours and CFLs are good for about 10,000 hours.

What this means for you

Replacing your standard light bulbs with much more energy efficient LED lighting bulbs, you will end up saving a lot of electricity. While LEDs currently cost more than incandescent bulbs, they will last a lot longer-thus saving you money in the long run, and you won’t have to worry about replacement bulbs. Also, as stated above, for the eco-conscious people, LEDs give no emissions and have no mercury or any other toxic substances other bulbs have.

How to use LED lighting

LED lighting is commonly used in flashlights, car lights, reading/desk lamps and more. They are also directional, which makes them ideal for highlighting a specific area, such as steps, exits, doors or if you are looking to decorate your house with directional lighting, you must definitely use LED lighting bulbs, such as the MR16. This will enable you to highlight art, paintings or anything you like; it can also make rooms appear bigger. The efficiency and durability of LED lighting bulbs make them ideal to install in places such as floor boards and other locations throughout your home.

Simply put, solar power is what you get after sunlight is converted into electricity. Sunlight is free and if used can produce electricity many times over. As we all know, the sun can be used to keep warm and it is also important in plant growth. Most of the energy sources currently in use have negative impact on our environment; this is why you keep hearing about global warming. Solar energy is however a clean form of energy. It causes no pollution and as such useful in protecting our environment.

Following the news in recent years, you should have heard a lot about renewable energy. Solar energy is an example of this energy source. As the name suggests, it is renewable, you can use it over and over again. Energy sources like oil, coal and natural gas are non renewable forms of energy. They are drawn from resources somewhere; eventually these resources will be depleted. At this point, seeking to harvest them for use will cause harm to our environment.

There are a number of energy sources that can be renewed, but a point to note is that most of them use the sun. This is either directly or indirectly. Take an example of wind power; this is a form of solar energy. Did you know that? Winds are as a result of heat produced when the sun hits the atmosphere. Since the earth’s surface is not even and since it is always rotating, wind is formed. Wind patterns are then determined by terrain, water masses and vegetation on the earth. This means therefore that there is a lot of wind flow on flat, open spaces. This is why you will see wind turbines in such areas. When this wind flow is harvested, it can be used to produce electricity.

If we can get the electricity we need so freely, why shouldn’t we consciously make a point to use such energy sources? We all make an impact on how our environment is conserved. The opposite is also true. Your daily activities like transport, heating and how you get your electricity are measured in terms of carbon footprint. These are all activities that will play a role on climate change. Each time you are engaged in any of them, you produce greenhouse gases, the more you produce the worse it is. If you care about the environment it is only important that you have a low carbon footprint. You should educate yourself on what you can do to make a positive contribution to the environment.

There are two ways you can do this. One way you can do this is seeking to reduce your carbon emissions and the other is by planting trees. The latter solution will go a long way in conserving our environment. Trees are helpful in absorbing carbon dioxide, and since this is the main culprit of global warming, the problem will be reduced. The byproduct of this process is oxygen, the more we have, and the cleaner our environment will be.

Make a point and plant anything green today!

Christmas is over and we are all returning to ‘normal’ but did you think about how many lights were used over the Christmas season, and how much energy? The most highly purchased Christmas decoration during this season is Christmas lights.

It is expected that about a trillion Christmas lights are used to decorate houses and buildings.

However, the long strings of Christmas lights, which are often incandescent or fluorescent, significantly affects the environment. According to studies, such lights emit enough carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide to add to the problem of global warming.

We all care about the environment and in an attempt to act more environmentally friendly, it is not surprising that more homes and businesses prefer to use solar powered Christmas lights when lighting up for the holidays.

Such lights are good for the future as well as the present as they are inexpensive to purchase, save energy from the sun in the daytime and automatically turn on at night. They have lesser chemical reactions which are harmful to health and environment and there is no need for additional electricity.

The LED light bulbs are high quality, brighten the Christmas decorations and last longer while consuming lesser energy.

They can be re-used for the next season if stored carefully, saving even more hassles and money in the lead up to the next year.

In the long run, the more people who re-use solar LED Christmas lights, the fewer Christmas lights are being manufactured and less are being destroyed and thrown into garbage.

The fewer products manufactured, the less harmful pollutants will be produced.

How much garbage and carbon dioxide can we save by just reusing at least half of the trillion lights used for the last Christmas season?

Solar Sun Jar Description: Outdoor light

Captured inside the jar is a highly efficient solar cell, rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamp. When the jar is placed in sunlight the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the LED lamp inside the jar.

The light is diffused by the frosted jar and give the appearance of sunlight emitting from the jar. The Sunjar creates a warm ambient light that is perfect for mood lighting both indoors and outdoors.

The Sun Jar turns on automatically when the sensor inside the light activates the light when it gets dark or the lights are turned off. The Sun Jar also features a switch which allows you to turn the light off to conserve energy.

Mason Jars are not only beautiful but by their very nature they are completely water tight – so the Sun Jar can happily be left outside in any weather conditions. A perfect garden light or night light for a kids bedroom.

Clocks powered by the sun, environmentally friendly & save money as well.

Time, one of the things that keep us all the same, we cannot escape it, we cannot control it and we cannot even manage it. Thank Goodness there are now clocks powered by the sun to remind us what time it is…

Look for clocks that have a Solar panel that runs on rechargeable AA batteries. When they are fully charged after in 8 hours on a charger they will operate for 6 to 8 hours. How good is that?

Most are simply made from one piece of durable plastic and as well as being great for indoors they can withstand outdoor living as well, making them perfect for any Garden. These days life is busy and it pays to know what time it is no matter where you are. Picking up kids, waiting for a call, going to an appointment, all these activities require knowledge of the time.

These high quality, high efficiency, low investment, classical style timepieces provide function and the easiest installation besides their lights on automatically when dark so you can always read their faces. Most of us are now using the backyard as another room in the house and spending much more time outdoors. Having an attractive outdoor environment in your garden for guests and family gatherings will be right on track while you offset greenhouse gases with these green Products.

An environmentally friendly outdoor clock may cost a little more up front, but because it won’t cost anything to operate, you’ll be saving a lot of money in the long run.

Whether you’re going camping, spending time in a cabin in the mountains, or taking Spring Break on the beach, you could use a good generator to keep the power on for safety, convenience, and in case of emergencies. But you can’t very well use a weighty, permanent generator – instead, you need a portable generator. And if you don’t want to spend money on gasoline, or if you want to help the environment while on your trip, then you need a portable solar generator.

A portable solar generator works on the same principles as a normal solar generator. It uses either photovoltaic (PV) or concentrated solar power (CSP) solar panels, but these will be very portable. That is, you’ll be able to take them apart, pack them up, and bring them along with your generator. The generator will have a bank of batteries to store the power for later use, and an inverter to transform direct current from the sun’s energy into alternating current at 120V for consumption.

You don’t have to be traveling for a portable solar generator to be a good choice. Even if you want to hole up in your basement during a terrible storm, or provide for a few necessities during an outage, you can do that, too. That’s what’s so great about a portable solar generator: versatility. Not only is it safe for the environment, but it can fit whatever needs you have.

These generators are clearly superior to gas-powered generators. Sure, gas-powered generators might be able to get you a little more wattage with a little less weight, but they produce toxic fumes that are harmful not only to the environment, but also to you, especially in tight spaces. Portable solar generators also make very little noise, making your vacation a pleasant stay instead of a roaring cacophony.

Portable solar generators are great for trips and stay-cations alike. They use the sun’s energy for power, can do pretty much anything you need, and are much better than using gasoline for power.

It can be difficult trying to reduce your carbon footprint. But if you own some open land, there’s a way to make it much easier: a wind turbine generator system. But before you run out and buy one to power your house with the wind, there are a few things you need to know. You should know, first and foremost, how a wind turbine generator system works; we’ll also inform you about how having one of these works with your electric company and the options you’ll have when looking to buy a wind turbine generator system.

How does a wind turbine generator system work? It converts the kinetic energy of the wind into electric power, which can be stored in a battery bank or supplied directly to the house for immediate use. The system also includes an inverter that converts DC power (the kinetic energy of the wind) to AC power (what you need for appliances).

But what happens if you need more power than the wind turbine generator is giving you? Easy: just draw more power from the electric company. And what happens if you generate more power than you need? Talk to your electric company again, because you can sell that power back to the company, and they can redistribute it for use elsewhere.

There are a lot of choices for wind turbine generator systems. Mostly, you need to worry about the size of the wind turbine generator, and I don’t mean how tall it is. For example, a wind turbine generator system rated at 10kW can generate about 10,000 kWh per year at an average wind speed of 12mph. This would be enough for some homes, but not for others, so make sure you figure out how much power you need – and how much you want to generate with your wind turbine.

Wind turbine generator systems are great for reducing your reliance on fossil fuels. They take the power of the wind and turn on your lights, refrigerator, and waffle iron. They don’t have to cover all of your power needs, but if they do, you can actually make money with them. And there is a variety available.

You want to keep your property safe, both for yourself and from possible intruders, right? Really, how could you not? For true safety, it’s vital that you have adequate lighting. What is absolutely best for security is having a motion sensitive floodlight that will come on if you are going out to get something from your car or someone is trying to sneak onto your property. In the first case, a floodlight like this will keep you from running into something or someone or tripping in the dark. In the second case, it will deter them from coming further onto your property. It’s amazing what light can do for your safety. Sadly, it’s also surprising what such a floodlight can do to your electric bill. Let’s take a look at how to do security lighting the smart way.

Now we’ve already talked about how important it is to have a motion sensitive floodlight on your property, but how do you find the right one and afford it? What I would recommend is looking into solar powered floodlights. These are made with LEDs which will shine brighter than anything else on the market. Solar powered lighting is also a one time expense. Once you buy the light and install it yourself (it really is that easy!) that light won’t cost you a dime. All the power will be taken from the sun and not from the electric company.

Look for a floodlight that is designated as a security floodlight. You will want the light to come on quickly and accurately determine when there is motion on your property. Since you really only need this added security feature at night, any solar powered security floodlight should have more than enough battery power to come on and off as necessary throughout the night. If you have a outdoors pet, shop around for one that will not come on each and every time that it walks by.

With these tips, you’re sure to find what you need for the safety of your property and fullness of your wallet.
