Whether you’re going camping, spending time in a cabin in the mountains, or taking Spring Break on the beach, you could use a good generator to keep the power on for safety, convenience, and in case of emergencies. But you can’t very well use a weighty, permanent generator – instead, you need a portable generator. And if you don’t want to spend money on gasoline, or if you want to help the environment while on your trip, then you need a portable solar generator.
A portable solar generator works on the same principles as a normal solar generator. It uses either photovoltaic (PV) or concentrated solar power (CSP) solar panels, but these will be very portable. That is, you’ll be able to take them apart, pack them up, and bring them along with your generator. The generator will have a bank of batteries to store the power for later use, and an inverter to transform direct current from the sun’s energy into alternating current at 120V for consumption.
You don’t have to be traveling for a portable solar generator to be a good choice. Even if you want to hole up in your basement during a terrible storm, or provide for a few necessities during an outage, you can do that, too. That’s what’s so great about a portable solar generator: versatility. Not only is it safe for the environment, but it can fit whatever needs you have.
These generators are clearly superior to gas-powered generators. Sure, gas-powered generators might be able to get you a little more wattage with a little less weight, but they produce toxic fumes that are harmful not only to the environment, but also to you, especially in tight spaces. Portable solar generators also make very little noise, making your vacation a pleasant stay instead of a roaring cacophony.
Portable solar generators are great for trips and stay-cations alike. They use the sun’s energy for power, can do pretty much anything you need, and are much better than using gasoline for power.
As a chef & avid camper, it is imperative that I teach the family about green energy, where-ever the location, whilst good food is provided. Thanks for the tips.
I want one! What an amazing concept in times that call for progressive, clean and smart ways to generate power. An inspiring product and website!!
great article! I want one too. thanks for the green inspiration.
We need to all be involved with passing the ways of world care down to our future gens
I enjoyed watching your video on The Solar House.
Can you tell me more about the Grid Tie Inverters?
Hi Jeff, thanks for your inquiry about Grid Tie Inverters.
A grid-tie inverter is a special type of inverter that converts direct current (DC) electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity and feeds it into an existing electrical grid. GTIs are often used to convert direct current produced by many renewable energy sources, such as solar panels or small wind turbines, into the alternating current used to power homes and businesses.Residences and businesses that have a grid-tied electrical system can often sell the unused portion of their energy back to the utility grid. We will be posting more info on this and other energy saving topics over the coming weeks. If you subscribe you will receive regular newsletter updates.
The post is great. Solar Generators can protect our environment too. A great idea.
It is great to get your comment and we love it that you are enjoying our info. Stay tuned for lots more to come

Great article, with the storm season around us along with power loss its comforting to know there is an alternative to the bulky petrol generators, and its safe for the environment. Fantastic!
