Like so many people, I’m sure that you’re looking for little and big ways to save money around the holiday season. There are just so many extra expenses during this time of year. If you live in a colder climate, you have added heating costs. You have to purchase gifts and make sure you have outfits for all those Christmas parties. Of course, you must decorate for the season, as much for your neighbors’ as to get yourself in the holiday spirit. One excellent way to save money and keep the season simpler and safer is to go with solar powered Christmas lights instead of trying to untangle your old light sets.
The last things some homeowners want to see in December and January are the utility bills. With added heating costs and shorter days requiring more lighting, these bills can be a real drain to any budget. When you add decorative lighting, these bills can skyrocket. A great way to bypass the budget meltdown is to have a way to decorate that has absolutely no operational costs.
No operational costs? It sounds pretty fantastical, but it’s true. Once you purchase and set up your solar powered Christmas lights, you can sit back and enjoy free light. The sun will power up the battery cells in each light so that whenever you want to turn on your solar powered Christmas lights, they will shine bright.
Solar powered Christmas lighting also makes life easier, in addition to being more affordable. Each light has its own solar panel, so the wiring is limited. You won’t have overloaded outlets or wires that someone might trip over or, worse, cut. In addition, solar powered Christmas lighting use LEDs which produce much less heat than incandescent bulbs. Sadly, over 240 fires each year are started by conventional Christmas lights catching things on fire because of faulty wiring or overheating objects.
Solar powered Christmas lights are truly the smart way to do Christmas decorating. Cheap, easy, and safe – what’s not to love?
Such a great idea! I’d love to drive my children around the neighborhood at christmas time to gaze at sustainable christmas lights. What a powerful way to introduce environmental issues to the next generation.
Christmas is the perfect time to look at lights and remind us of how we can change a tradition to work for a modern future.
Great ideas for going green! Most interesting, simple and family friendly. Thanks!!
Oh cool! I’ve never heard of solar powered Christmas lighting. I’d love to get more involved with decorating our house with Christmas lights but it’s always been the thought of the power bills that turns me off the idea.
Exactly Cindy, we think of the power it takes to light up whole neighborhoods, and how wonderful it looks, versus how bad it is for the environment. This way everyone wins. The children get to see the wonderful tableaux of Christmas and we get to feel good about our part in preserving the resources of the planet
